How AgroPulse Nigeria Uses AI Responsibly
A plain-language statement on what our AI does, what it doesn't do, and how it is governed.
Contents
1. What AI Does in This Platform
AgroPulse Nigeria uses AI-assisted analysis to combine data from weather stations, stream gauges, satellite imagery, and community reports into flood risk indicators and agricultural alerts. AI tools help identify patterns in historical flood data and translate stream gauge readings into risk level classifications.
2. What AI Does Not Do
AgroPulse Nigeria AI does not make evacuation decisions. All alerts are advisory. Every flood risk level is presented as information to support human decision-making: not as an automated instruction. Local authorities, extension officers, and community leaders retain all decision-making authority in flood response.
3. How We Govern Our AI
AgroPulse Nigeria's AI components are formally registered and governed through the Symbiosis LLC GRC Command Centre under the following frameworks:
- NIST AI Risk Management Framework (NIST AI RMF 1.0)
- ISO/IEC 42001:2023 AI Management System
- EU AI Act risk classification framework
Under these frameworks, AgroPulse Nigeria's alert generation system is classified as Minimal Risk because: it provides information and recommendations; it does not make binding decisions affecting individual rights; and human oversight is maintained at all decision points.
4. Accuracy and Limitations
Weather and flood data is inherently uncertain. Forecasts beyond 72 hours have wider uncertainty ranges. Stream gauge data reflects conditions at monitoring stations, not necessarily at all farm locations in the same state.
Always cross-reference AgroPulse Nigeria alerts with local knowledge and official NEMA and state emergency management guidance during actual flood events.
5. Planting Window Provenance
Planting windows shown in the Planting Advisor are general agronomic guidance for the agro-ecological zone, shifted to the onset date NiMet publishes for each Local Government Area. They are not published by NiMet or by any other institution, and they have not been reviewed by an agronomist. They are a planning aid, not agricultural advice. Farmers should confirm the current season onset with local extension services or the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) before sowing.
6. Data Privacy
Farmer registration data is stored securely and is not shared with third parties without explicit consent. Anonymised aggregate data (registrant counts by state, alert delivery statistics) may be used internally as evidence of platform reach.
How we handle data
- every figure is traced to a named NiMet publication and page
- no value is invented, interpolated or estimated
- records are excluded where NiMet's own published figures do not reconcile with one another
- excluded records are shown to the user rather than hidden
